AUSTEMPERING

( ISOTERMIC TREATING )

Consist of heating steel to a temperature slighty superior to the critical and later cooling in a hot salt bath that is maintained at a constant temperature during a time period sufficient enough to verify the total transformation of the Austenite in Bainite.    The temperature of the bath that needs to be superior to the M2 point usually varies from 250 to 550 ēC.    For the treatment to be correct and the structure to be completely bainitic the cooling in the 1st phase should be sufficiently fast enough to stop the formation of perlite
